Crufts Qualification 2009

   Pat with Murpy (Irish Water Spaniel)

 Murphy is one of our show dogs, up to the age of 6 months we could not decide if he would be better as a working dog or a possible show dog, he is firstly part of our family, but training is a key part of to maintain a balanced dog. We decided to try him in the show ring at 6 months we would take him to local companion dog shows with mixed results. The judges main comments of areas to focus on were his walking in the ring and stacking (a standing position that allows the judges to check his lines etc)

Pat spent a lot of time training Murphy in these area's, Irish Water Spaniels are very head strong, so patiencs and commitment are very important. We then entered him into Birmingham Championship Dog Show, if placed here it would qualify him for Crufts 2009.

A place in Crufts is more than dog training, they also check his size, shape and of course his coat condition and clipping, over a short period of time prior to the show I prepared and clipped Murphy's coat, a show clip must have certain elements for each breed, he looked great (but would the judges like him)

Pat handled Murphy with great confidence in the ring, and Murphy responded very well to her. He was awarded second place and very highly commended in his age group and secured a place in Cruft's 2009. We were very excited and happy that all the effort was rewarded.
